Why don't Cell Phone Providers Cover National Parks?
After watching this video by Top Mysteries, I have to wonder as a hiker why cell towers don’t cover National Parks? It would not be too intrusive, they could power it with solar power, and use mountains as natural locations to put a tower. Every time I go out hiking I have no service. Given that hiking is popular for people I would say, not only would it provide more value to customers, it would save lives.
I know the perils of going out in nature and have had struggles against weather, bad trails, cold etc… It can strike on day hikes where people don’t plan to stay out. This is why I often hike with my full weighted pack. It is good exercise and leaves you better prepared for those times when nature makes it impossible to get back to the trailhead. Take precautions so you don’t become one of the thousands of people who go missing or die in our national parks.
It should be noted there are satellite options for hikers, but more often than not people do not purchase these items. Here are some options from amazon for gps locators and satellite phones. Be prepared since cell coverage is often spotty or nonexistent.
Always have some bare essentials as well… You should stop on your way to hike and pick up a pack of lighters. You should purchase a cheap emergency shelter or sleeping bag (these are often small and easy to carry). A Water filter, and water bottle etc. This may save your life even if you think you are just on a day hike. Be careful out there, especially if you solo hike (as I often do). Respect the fact that nature doesn’t always cooperate with your plans….
