Metabolism Rebound After A Long Fast
187.7 lbs 35.5 inches 37 hours fat fasted
Starting another eat day soon, but I am noticing a downward trend after fasting day. While feast day weight and measurement shows a slight increase in weight the fast days yield downward trend. This means that about a week and a half following the fat fast, weight normalizes and that is the time you can benchmark how successful your long fast was overall. Always keep in mind longer fasts have a temporary rebound weight gain and bloat, and if you want to gauge how successful the fast was, you should wait a few weeks on your maintenance protocol (mine being ADF or ADD) to see where you land. Averaging 191 prior to the fat fast, I am now trending to 187 lbs. So that is 4 lbs down from the start point of the fat fast. Some of that is water weight of course, but some of it is fat lost, that has yet to be replaced. To see a downward trend though means I am not regaining the weight. That means that metabolism is back to normal and I am once again in energy balance.
This is why I believe that Keto is the best diet in terms of ramping up metabolism after it drops during a long fast. It also helps that during a fat fast there is only a small almost negligable drop in metabolism, which may drop more if the fat fast was continued for a longer period. Things for me to test in the future. My conclusion is a fat fast can supplement a long water fast when needed and can also be a great launch point for a long water fast as you can use it for a crutch to get through the first 5 days which are reported to be the hardest part of a long water fast. I discuss long fasts in a lot more detail in the podcast.
This indicates to me that long fasts should have a recovery period at whatever protocol you plan to do at maintenance for the rest of your life. For me that will be Alternate day fasting, with occasional alternate day diet with fat only on fast days, mainly when I want heavy cream in my coffee on fast days.
Podcast 002 is ready for download, and it is a long one at 2.5 hours. Plenty of filler content between videos. Today I have two interviews I am filming for the channel. Will also try to film a regular video as well. Trying to gear Mondays and Tuesdays towards filming and then editing and uploading after that, to see if that yields more video content. I do want to get out from behind the desk and film outside more, but winter is being a brutal motherfucker this year, which is hard on camera gear.
