Day 1 of the Fat Fast
193.7 lbs 36.25 inches.. 17 hours fat fasted.
Well as I prepare for 2 videos I am filming today, I want to give some initial thoughts (without spending my wad here) on the daily 4 hour eating window. Verdict? I gained weight and inches this week. This could just be temporary or it could be what would happen if I continued to eat every day. In any case it solidifies my favorite protocol, which is ADF Keto, which seems to keep me firmly planted in the 180s. I will get more into this in my results video, but today is the beginning of a new self experiment. I want to test out the concept of Fat Fasting, heavily inspired by Dr Valter Longo's Research on the Fasting Mimicking Diet. This will be the topic of the second video I am filming today. My version will be fat in my coffee in the form of heavy cream for the next 6-7 days. Followed by 6-7 days of intuitive eating keto. I want to test this for the next few months. During the fat fast, no protein will be consumed and no carbs. The principle is keeping autophagy going (which stops when we consume protein) and keeping insulin low (which gives easy access to body fat).
The sustainability factor is also key, as eating every other week may get rough. If I notice any negative side effects or problems, I may end the protocol early. While I don't anticipate progressing below my set point which hovers in the upper 180s on adf/keto. In Theory I should dip below my set point on fasting weeks and gain back + a few pounds during my feeding week. Will it work? From my research on survivalists, they seem to fit this pattern of eating due to difficulties in finding food or hunting. Of course that means they are not surviving, heh. However, there are periods of famine or lack of food in hunter gatherers. There are also periods of abundance and feeding. I want to test these concepts on myself and see what happens. How does it differ from long water fasts? I don't find very many people experimenting with this currently due to the negative thoughts on saturated fats that still dominate our culture, along with fears of malnutrition from not taking in micronutrients (which I believe only comes into play if we don't take in proper nutrition during our feasting periods). So wish me luck as I embark on a 7 day ish fat fast so I can answer these questions for myself and others who are curious.
In other channel news I am thinking of going live Wednesday afternoon or evening. Haven't gone live in a while. Still working on the adventure video, but taking my time with that since I still want to produce normal content, which you are all here for. Might have bit off more than I can chew with that project, as the editing and voice over work on that is proving substantial. I will be glad when that project is finished so I can put together some other excursion style adventure videos which explore some of the lifestyle and minimalism concepts I believe in. Being a one man show (with some volunteer efforts from supporters of my channel). I realize that if my channel ever grows beyond survival income, I will need to employ people to do some of the more tedious tasks in production. Still for now, will just keep doing the best I can each week.
